NIGHT OF THE BEAR by Răzvan Macovei

The story follows the events that three 17yr olds go through during one summer night. Every boy has his own dramas: Eric has an insane brother who beats him, Anghel’s mother committed suicide, his sister and his father have an unorthodox relationship, and Geo’s mother is an alcoholic woman who is scared of getting old. None of the three boys understand the reason for which they are friends, but they still spend their time together. Their often-absurd fights are mediated by the ironic apparition of a plush teddy bear in their lives, found by Eric in a trash bin. The structure of the film is unique, as the 3 main characters, besides their dialogue, have a series of open monologues with the public. The monologues are presented through animations. The universe of the animations is very playful and cute and the people are represented by teddy bears. The animations are placed in antithesis with the harshness of the boys’ monologues.
